King Charles are nice dogs but have some breed-specific health problems that can be serious.
Would he consider a Beagle? They have a bit of a lab look, are great with kids and have wonderful personalities.
Perhaps something like an Irish Terrier might be good...very little grooming/shedding, although they do have to be professionally clipped or stripped regularly.

What about a Brittany?
A beagle huh? And hey, they come in different sizes. Are they as stubborn as they say?

Personality plus. And yes, they do come in different sizes and don't require a lot of grooming. Who didn't love Uno??How about a Fred? Low maintenance & as playful as you want him to be.![]()
They are so cute the papillion's with silky hair, easy as can be to train. OR a mutt terrier like Bridey!!!!
Note about photo: No dogs were injured, just my two girls talking to each other and they do it every night! Kind of look like gremlins who got into the water after midnight, doncha think? Can't let Fred be the only scary doggie in the window!!

English cocker spaniel? still some grooming...
Is he dead set on a purebred? because I see lots of lab mixes that still look typey but are smaller...
