I feel such guilt putting one on Gavin, I refuse to leave my apt if I don't have to so he doesn't have to wear one.

And Gavin is around 34 lb, too. I call him my 'super' sheltie :lol:
 
Poor Sketch, that's tough on top of everything. Hope it clears up soon. and he can ditch the collar once and for all :hugs to you both.
 
Dang it! You and Sketch both need a break! Being a nurse in a hospital I can tell you that super-bugs are a big problem. Disheartening to see that the critters are being affected also. Fingers crossed they'll have an antibiotic it is susceptible to and Sketch will be cleared up in no time.

Poor guy, I bet he's bummed the collar is back on.... big hugs and a kiss on the nose to him from me.
 
Test results came back yesterday and the news was not good...he has MRSA... a strain of staph that can be very resistant to treatment. The Smz-Tmp was not helping him at all and he has been switched to Cephalexin 500mg 2x daily and topicals. Our vet is hopeful that since we caught this very early that Sketch will respond...but I know we are in for a tough battle...so Sketchie can use all the prayers he can get right now. :(

It is estimated that at least 25%-30% of humans are carriers of this bacteria on their skin (percentage of pet carriers not published), it typically only becomes an active infection in a person or pet whose immune system is "down" and there has been a breach in the skin.

I am so sorry.. I have a friend who has had MRSA for months it seams....never quite clears up.

I know Sketch can beat this...:fl :hugs

I have been doubling Gavin's vibrant pets since his problems started...can't hurt!

I'm just catching up on this thread and I'm so sorry to hear about Sketch's set back with MRSA. Sending healing prayers to him and prayers for strength for you.
 
Thanks everyone for the continued good wishes for our Sketchie. Except for the visible infection around his incision area, he is still doing well. No fever, eating like a piggie and excited to be playing short duration, limited distance games of fetch. So, one day at a time and keeping our spirits up for Sketch's sake.
