This Guy Pulls At My Heart Strings...

There are SO MANY sad stories that tug at your heart strings. However, I have been VERY grateful to the two families who gave Bailey and Katy to the rescue instead of dumping them at an animal shelter when they realized they were too much to handle. They both benefited from having people who knew shelties and understood how to find them homes with people who would realize their needs and screen appropriatly.

I can't begin to imagine trying to raise a puppy and a child at the same time, let alone a child with a disability.

Its so good to know that there are people out there who care enough to realize when pets have become too much and would do better in a different home, and look into and find rescue groups. Apart from the greyhound rescue, you don't hear much about rescue groups in our area. I don't think that I'd ever thought of looking into a sheltie rescue till I became a member of this forum.

I emailed my vet's office today and let them know that the rescue group would be contacting them.

I hope I hear from them soon! I'm trying REALLY hard to be patient!

I Talked to Toby's Foster Mom

I had a really nice talk with Toby's foster mom last night.

Toby is an energetic young sheltie who loves to run, play and cuddle. He's a little shy at first but overall loves all people and children. He is polite and has excellent manners. While is is energetic she said that he settles really well when exercised regularly.

He spent most of his life in an apartment so is afraid around traffic and horrible on leash. He likes to chase anything with wheels apparently. I assured his foster mom that should we adopt him I'll be enrolling him in obedience and will only let him off leash with a long line until we have a great recall.

His foster mom is quite taken with him and doesn't really want to give him up, but her 15 year old sheltie passed away a month ago and she feels the timing isn't right for her to keep him. She said she hasn't met anyone who isn't immediately taken with him.

I asked if she knew where he came from and she said he came from a well known puppy broker/puppymill. I can't remember the name of it but apparently they regularly ship large quantities of puppies over the border into Canada. Apparently the owners paid $1700 for him! He's not even papered! :eek2:

She was forwarded the video of Sadie and Ginny playing and feels he would get along great with them.

I'm very excited to meet him, although dh is still unsure. I'm confident he will change his mind once he sees Toby and I've assured him that we will not get Toby if dh does not like him for some reason. I doubt that will be the case though, Toby sounds great.

I'm just waiting to have the home visit now, before we can go meet him. I can't wait, I'm so excited! :smile2:
