Cody has a shoulder injury

His explanation was that it is much more spread on the east and west coast. The ticks we have here are deer ticks, not the type that carry lyme disease. If I had been traveling with Cody, he would have suggested the test......

That is interesting. I live in Minnesota and we are one of the hottest beds of Lyme in the country. Wisconsin is even worse.

Just wanted to put that out there in case people reading this thought Lyme isn't in the midwest. Deer ticks do carry it.

Glad that Cody has a plan and a vet you can work with. Hope he feels better.:smile2:

He did mention Minnesota because I thought of you when he said it. I don't know, maybe I have my breed of tick confused, but, his reasoning for NOT testing is it isn't in this region.

Thank you for your input though......

Yey this great news totally brought my spirit up this morning! I am so happy you will be able to get a diagnostic on what is causing Cody's pain.

I also think that it is great that someone on this forum (Kate - Famous Seamus) put you into contact with a fantastic vet. A little act of kindness like that can go a long way!

Best of luck, and please keep us posted. I'll continue sending positive thoughts for Cody's recovery!

It is there though. I looked up the statistics on Lyme in dogs in your county. There are cases. That is my point. It is not common, but there.

I am just stating what I would do, as my dog had similar symptoms and it ended up being Lyme. The test is cheap. Why not do it? Why go through the expense of x-rays, chiroprator manipulations, etc. without just ruling out Lymes. I am speaking from experience. My wallet would have appreciated this advice :wink2:

What is the dog's temperature? I am hoping that one of the vets at least took the dog's temperature.

I am very happy that you found a great vet and things are on the way to getting Cody diagnosed! You were such a good boy Cody, I hope you are better real soon.

I'm sorry, I meant to answer your question and FORGOT!!:uhoh:. Yes, they took his temp and it was normal. His eating habits are good, spirits are good, everything is normal other than the limp.

I TRULY appreciate your advice, I really do!!!!!! I will mention it again when I call Monday for the results. I too, am baffled as to why BOTH vets have shunned the idea. I even mentioned that a vet suggested it........

I want to thank all of you for your support, advice, and concern for Cody. He is such a good dog (I know.....they ALL are:biggrin2:). I'm really hoping he recovers quickly and can go back to his normal, crazy, barky, silly self!!!

I am SO glad to hear that his temperature was OK and his spirits seem good. I feel better now :biggrin2:

Lymes is such a nightmare, I would hate for it to go undiagnosed. You are such a good mommy and I too hope he recovers quickly and can go back to his normal self!

Hopefully all good news comes ASAP. Sounds like with a good temp, he is eating etc.. all is going well. All good thoughts coming.

Well, results from the radiographs are back and basically, they didn't show anything other than injury to both ankles. No bony lesions or soft tissue damage. Next step is bloodwork checking for Luekemia and Anemia. I mentioned the Lyme test again and he agreed to do it to rule out that possibility. Tests being run are CVC, Vet screen and tick panels. (I must say, though, I was alittle overwhelmed and didn't understand ALOT of the terminology)

He stated that if bloodwork comes back normal, the next step will be putting him on steriods again and gradually weaning him off. I questioned what would be done if the lameness came back again after off the steriods (which is what happened before) and then he said we would be sent to an Vet Orthopedic surgeon.

I'm so bummed!!!!! Cody is stir-crazy not being able to run and starting to show aggression towards the other dogs. I asked if it would be OK to go on short walks or a treadmill and he permits it as long as I keep a close watch on him. If the lameness gets worse, I have to stop all exercise completely..:(

Poor Cody. I know it's hard not knowing what it's wrong, but it's great that he doesn't have soft tissue damage. That can be very difficult to correct.

I wonder if it would tire him out to teach new tricks? Maybe do some clicker training and teach him something fun and new that doesn't require a lot of movement. You could maybe also teach crate games--other members of the forum may have a better explanation of them.
